Edge Gate
Entrance to the part from the runner located on the parting line. The Edge Gate runner can be left in place or broken off.

Once broken off, notice how the Edge Gate is stepped into the part geometry (picture 3). If there is assembly involved, this will help assure that the gate scar will not cause fitting issues due to the remaining vestige.
