1988 – New Facility for a Growing Business
A 20,000 square foot tooling facility is built in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin to accommodate the growing need for machining technology and manpower.
The addition of a dedicated engineering and design team provides customers with specialized product development and design-for-manufacture, consultation and mold design.
The beginning of the MGS "in-house, single-source" philosophy takes root.
1990 – The Growth Continues
Within just two years, the company outgrows its space and a 12,000 square foot addition is made to the existing facility to accommodate additional equipment and personnel – marking the beginning of a significant growth phase for MGS.
1992 – 10th Anniversary and Addition of Specialized Divisions
MGS celebrates ten years in business, and over the next two years, expands on its “in-house, single-source” philosophy by incorporating two new divisions that provide specialized services to meet the needs of its customers:
Prototypes, Molds & Design (PMD) is established to facilitate and expedite the design and build of prototype and production injection molds.
A mold polishing team is added to provide the intricate polishing, finishing and detailing of plastic injection tooling systems.
1994 – Advanced Services in Manufacturing
The focus of growth again revolves around the needs of our customers. Specific demands come in the areas of specialized manufacturing and development services.
Statistical Plastics Corporation (SPC) begins with an investment in injection presses to provide developmental testing, molding, and inspection services for the plastic injection molding industry.
An in-house group of programmers and software application writers is established, specializing in the creation of efficient data management systems and specialized computer aided design and manufacturing.
1996 – Expansion to Germantown with New Corporate Headquarters
A new 65,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is built to provide engineering, mold and part design, tooling, project management, and plastics processing. Named the MGS Tech Center, it becomes corporate headquarters for the company and houses the personnel and resources to support MGS administrative needs.
1997 - The Total Manufacturing Solution
TecStar Mfg. Company, the second Germantown facility, begins operations. The new 80,000 square foot structure houses plastic manufacturing operations and additional mold building capabilities. TecStar establishes itself as a full-service manufacturing company - offering a complete range of engineering and production resources.
1999 – Multishot Mania
Universal Multishot Systems™ begins operations by servicing the multiple material manufacturing equipment needs of the MGS molding facility. Starting out as a small mezzanine operation, the UMS team grows quickly when MGS customers begin buying portable injection units and rotary platens. The group moves to its own facility in Germantown to accommodate the specialized equipment needs of its customers. UMS equipment currently runs at all MGS facilities and in our customer’s plants throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
2000 - Continued Growth
A second production molding facility in Libertyville, Illinois, provides increased manufacturing capabilities, including blow molding. The 30,000 square foot facility also houses single and multishot injection presses along with assemblies and secondary operations.
2002 – 20th Anniversary and Expanded Facility Space
A major expansion is completed at the Germantown molding facility. The new addition more than doubles the current facility size to over 180,000 square feet and increases production capacity providing the ability to better streamline material and inventory control. The additional warehouse space provides improved inventory management of engineered resins and finished goods and adds a significant shipping and receiving department.
As MGS proudly marks its 20th anniversary, the newly added facility space doubles as the venue for the company’s anniversary party. Over 500 people are in attendance for the special event.
2006 – An Investment for Growth in the Healthcare Market
MGS Mfg. Group acquires All West Plastics in Antioch, Illinois. The plant services the needs of the Northern Illinois “medical corridor” providing cleanroom injection molding and value-added services. MGS invigorates the Antioch plant with additional injection molding machines and multishot manufacturing technologies.
2008 – Welcome MGS Chihuahua
MGS Mfg. Group acquires an existing injection molding facility in Chihuahua, Mexico. MGS increases the facility’s size by 12,000 square feet and expands molding capacity by adding 770 ton injection molding machines, multishot technologies and continuous shuttle blow mold capabilities. Named TecStar de Mexico, the facility serves the automotive, electronics and consumer markets.
2010 – New Cleanroom in Germantown and a Facility Name Change
The MGS Germantown molding facility builds a 7,000 square foot cleanroom for additional molding and assembly capacity to serve the growing medical healthcare markets.
The name of the All West Plastics facility is changed to MGS Mfg. Group – Antioch. The facility, focusing on the medical / dental / healthcare markets, is certified to ISO 13485 standard.
2011 – First Corporate Facility Overseas and the Formal Launch of MGS Automation
A new location in Leixlip, Ireland becomes the fifth MGS production molding plant and the company’s first outside of North America. Named MGS Mfg. Group, Ltd., the 45,000 square foot facility manufactures products for computer, healthcare, electronics and consumer markets.
MGS Automation, an in-house resource since 1998, expands its scope and capabilities with a move to a dedicated facility in Germantown. The team designs, builds and validates custom automation equipment for MGS production needs and begins growing its own direct customer base.
2014 – MGS Opens Sixth Manufacturing Facility, Builds a Quality Lab and Rebrands Molding Divisions
The formal acquisition of the Hospira injection molding facility in Buffalo, NY takes place in July. Legally changed to MGS Buffalo, Inc., the 41,000 square foot facility specializes in the production and assembly of medical components.
A state-of-the-art Quality Lab is built inside the Germantown molding facility. The 5,000 square foot lab houses coordinate measuring machines, vision systems and a CT (computed tomography) x-ray machine, with room to add additional equipment as future needs dictate.
The names of the MGS Molding facilities in Wisconsin, Illinois and Mexico are rebranded from “TecStar” to MGS Germantown, MGS Libertyville and MGS Chihuahua, S.A de C.V., respectively. This rebranding brings all MGS companies under the parent company heading of MGS Mfg. Group, and helps reinforce the “in-house, single-source” philosophy that has driven our company from early on.
2015 – Another MGS Cleanroom and a New Distribution Center
To meet the needs of our customers in the medical sector, a second cleanroom is built within the MGS Germantown molding facility in May. The 15,000 square foot cleanroom houses MGS Automation equipment and servo and hybrid injection molding machines.
MGS opens a 100,000 square foot distribution center in Oak Creek, Wisconsin to provide a central location for servicing the inventory management and shipping and receiving needs of our Wisconsin and Illinois facilities. The expansion provides additional job opportunities in the community.
